This year CRRES welcomes two new directors: Dr. Sylvia Martinez, who is serving as CRRES Director, and Dr. Sonia Lee, who is taking on the role of Associate Director.
Sylvia Martinez is an Associate Professor in the IU School of Education, where she teaches in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, as well as the Latino Studies Program in the College of Arts and Sciences. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on Latino/a ethnic identity, Latino/a education, and sociology of education issues more generally.
Sonia Lee is an Associate Professor in American Studies and the Latino Studies Program. She received her PhD in U.S. History from Harvard University. Her research interests include the civil rights and Black Power movements, Black-Brown solidarities, constructions of race and ethnicity, mental health, substance abuse, trauma and practices of healing within freedom movements.
