The Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society (CRRES), with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is seeking to fund Indiana University, Bloomington faculty in the humanities, social sciences and health sciences whose research focuses on the intersections of race, ethnicity, and health in the U.S., broadly defined. Funding for these grants will range from $5K to $20K.
We recognize that health is defined and studied in different ways across disciplines, and we are open to novel and creative research methodologies and topics, including but not limited to the following areas:
· Environmental and occupational health inequities
· Psychosocial trauma and stereotype threats
· Substance abuse and the pharmaceutical industry
· Explicit or implicit racial discrimination within health care
· Carceral state and its entanglements within schools, hospitals, and foster care
· Intergenerational, historical trauma and healing justice
· Bodily autonomy and reproductive health
· Health of political and social institutions and organizations
We will fund research projects across methodological orientations.
Faculty are invited to apply on an individual basis or as research teams (interdisciplinary or within disciplines). Grant recipients will be selected based on the following criteria, in order of priority:
· Demonstrated contribution to the study of race, ethnicity and health
· Demonstrated engagement with policies and solutions that address the root causes of racial health disparities and patterns of health and well-being
· Demonstrated ability and/or plan to engage in public-facing work
· Actively seeking partnerships with community-based organizations, especially those that are BIPOC-led
·Actively training an academic pipeline of researchers in health and race
