CRRES Director Sylvia Martinez, CRRES Associate Director Sonia Lee, and CRRES Affiliate Ellen Wu have been awarded with 2023 Inclusive Excellence Awards. Granted by the Bloomington Faculty Council and IU Bloomington Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity & Inclusion, these awards recognize faculty members who display exceptional leadership in fostering diversity and inclusion on campus and in the surrounding Bloomington community. Dr. Matinez's research focuses on Latino/a education and Latino/a ethnic identity development. Dr. Lee researches Black and Latinx studies, social movements, constructions of race and ethnicity, trauma and healing, mental health and abolition. Finally, Dr. Wu's work covers race, migration and belonging in United States history.
Beyond their formal research agendas, each of these faculty members have contributed in substantial and often immeasurable ways to our IU and Bloomington communities, supporting underrepresented students, providing crucial mentorship, and engaging in various forms of public scholarship and community engagement. This DEI work often takes place behind the scenes, but we are thrilled to see these accomplishments recognized.
Big congratulations to Drs. Sylvia Martinez, Sonia Lee, and Ellen Wu!
