CRRES Affiliate Dr. Solimar Otero won the 2021 Albert J. Raboteau Prize for the Best Book in Africana Religions for her book, Archives of Conjure: Stories of the Dead in Afrolatinx Religious Cultures (Columbia University Press 2020). Her book, Archives of Conjure, “explores how Afrolatinx spirits guide collaborative spiritual-scholarly activist work through rituals and the creation of material culture.”
Dr. Otero is a Professor of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Director of the Folklore Institute, and Editor for the Journal of Folklore Research. She also won this year’s Distinguished Faculty Award from the Latino Faculty and Staff Council.
