CRRES Affiliates Featured in COVID-19 Exposed Q&A

Saturday, May 02, 2020

On April 8, 2020, the Asian Culture Center and the School of Public Health Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion co-hosted a webinar/panel discussion titled "COVID-19 Exposed." Panelists were unable to answer all the questions posed within the webinar itself, so select faculty and staff were invited to give responses for a follow-up Q&A. Several CRRES-affiliated faculty contributed their expertise, including CRRES Director Dina Okamoto, Affiliates Radhika Parameswaran, Cynthia Wu, and Ellen Wu.

These questions covered topics such as the increasing violence and hate crimes against Asian American, regardless of ethnic descent; patterns for naming viruses and outbreaks; and media coverage of racial barriers, disparities, and perceptions. Faculty also addressed action-oriented questions including advocacy work to reduce xenophobia, bias incident reporting, and being a good ally to the African American community during this time.

Watch the webinar and view the responses to these questions on the Asian Culture Center's website:
