What does it mean to teach with kindness, and how do compassionate practices intersect with our embodied experiences of the classroom? In what ways might racialized difference inflect such practices for instructors and students? What are our own experiences of compassion (or its lack) in educational settings? We'll reflect on these questions together as a precursor to thinking about the three key concepts that make up a Pedagogy of Kindness (justice, believing students, and believing in students) and discuss practical ways to increase compassion in our syllabi, assignments, and grading practices.
